    Recipes cannot be copyrighted.  Some are handed down from generation to generation, some come from newspaper articles, magazines, and cookbooks.  A few do have a known origin, such as Toll House Cookies.  Others are variations on older recipes. 
Your best option is to cite the source where you found the recipe, be it your mom or grandmother, the cookbook, the article, wherever you got it.
