Describe two ways that Europe could divide into smaller regions

I suppose they could form blocs based on language group (Romance languages, Slavic, etc.).
They could ally themselves based on geography (north and south of the Alps, for example). Can you think of other criteria?

I agree with Reed, It could be languages. So then it would be East Vs West. Because Eastern European and Russian is similar. Also the geography is similar, because you have the Alps.
