Answers
so x+y=2 and xy=2
from the first: y = 2-x
into the 2nd
x(2-x) = 2
2x - x^2 - 2 = 0
x^2 - 2x + 2 = 0
solving by completing the square:
x^2 - 2x = -2
x^2 - 2x + 1 = -2+1
(x-1)^2 = -i
x-1 = ± √-1 = ± i
x = 1 ± i
