3x - 1/4 = 8 + 5x/2
multiply each term by 4, the LCD
12x - 3 = 32 + 10x
2x = 35
x = 35/2 or 17.5

(3x-2)/8 = (8+5x)/2
multiply each side by 8, the LCD
3x-2 = 4(8 + 5x)
3x-2 = 32 + 20x
-17x = 34
x = -2
