The Low Country grew crops on subsistence farms and only grew enough for themselves and their families. The Up Country was much more well off and grew crops on plantations and for profit. Because of these plantations in the Up Country, more slaves were there as well. Also, there was more wealth, education, and political power with the Up Country. At the time of the Revolutionary War, there were more Patriots in the Up Country and Loyalists in the Low Country causing an even bigger divide.

In the low country the people were rich and had a lot of money and owned slaves and plantations, the up country is where the farms were and slaves worked.
