smaller number ---- x
larger number ------2x

x-15 = 3(2x - 15)
x-15 = 6x - 45
-5x = -30
x = 6

the two numbers are 6 and 12

check:
6-15 = -9
12-15 = -3
and -9 is 3 times the -3
All is good
