How did the Roman people feel about Rome being shifted to an Empire from a Republic?

I cannot seem to find anything so far from any reputable sources, so if you could suggest some, that would be appreciated

Here are some possible sources. Guaging public opinion is rather difficult back so far. There are no records of public opinion polls, and most people probably didn't write diaries that have survived for two thousand years.
