Why do people sometimes chase after or admire people who do not pay them any attention?

I admire a lot of people from a distance, but respect their privacy and realize they can't be friends with all of their admirers.

I think this explains this phenomenon as well, as concisely, as anything else I can provide. Many studies have been done on this topic, and I could write something myself, but this is a credible source:

Are you in Connections Academy?

I have to write an essay for this same question.

Basically people chase after people who reject them because the more they get rejected the more they long to be loved by that person.
