the waitress in our local diner are _ to be funny and not always polite if a customer says i'm ready to order now he may get a _ responce such as im ready to retire but you don't hear me making a big deal about it

What is the object here? Do you have multiple choices for the word to fill in, or are you supposed to provide it?

First, the subject "waitress" does not agree with the verb "are." Are is plural, waitress is singular.
