But that looks far more complicated than memorizing that 16 - 9 = 7

My 2nd grader a 7yr old and I did these tonight and this was probably the weirdest homework he's ever brought home. Had to look online to try to explain it to him but hard when even I couldn't figure it out at 1st.

I'm working on this with my 6 yr old 1st grader. Last night I had to YouTube the break apart to subtract thing. This is the hardest homework I've ever had to do. 😭
