Its 8in by 8in because on the side if you add 6 and 2 you will get 8. You get the 6 bc it's the length, and for the square, the same will be 6 and they all have equivalent sides, so the width of the square is also 6in. You add 2 because it's the width. So adding 6 and 2 you will get 8in. And the whole shape is a square so figuring out one side, will give you the answer.
