How did you get 35.2 ?

kalyn
I mean 34

She got 34.2 because she changed 1/5 to a decimal. Then, she added 0.2 to 34 to get 34.2, which is the same thing as 34 1/5.
1/5 = 0.2
1/2 = 0.5
In order to do this, just divide the top and bottom. So, for 1/5, just divide 1 by 5 to get 0.2.
I hope this helps? :)

Would the answer be 52.3 and can it be simplfied
Answered by
Ms. Sue
Yes, it's 52.3 and it's already simplified.
52.3 = 52 3/10
52.3 = 52 3/10

You're welcome Ms. Sue.
Kalyn, 52.3 can be simplified, by turning it into a mixed fraction. However, you can of course, leave it as 52.3.
The first thing you can do is to figure out the place value of the 3.
The 3 is in the tenths place, so moving the decimal to the right will get a 10. This should also get rid of the decimal.
With the 10, place it under the 523 with a fraction bar in between. This should be 523 / 10. So, the decimal now becomes a improper fraction at this point. However, you want a mixed fraction.
Since there are 52 tens in 520, this is now a whole number and goes outside the fraction. However, this leaves 3 leftover in the fraction, and this part becomes 3/10. So now, you have 52 3/10 as the final simplified answer.
I hope this helps! :)
P.S. Sorry for a later answer, I had to figure out how to explain the process better for in this post.
