a round cake pan that is 2 inches deep and has a 7 inch diameter
a 6 inch × 9 inch rectangular cake pan that is 2 inches deep
a. Which of these pans has the larger volume? Justify your answer.
b. Excluding the bottom of the cake, what is the surface area of each cake that will be covered by frosting?

Guys this is pretty simple. Let me try to break it down. i am NOT going to be writing down the whole answer because i do not want to encourage cheating! So, you use the formula 9•6•2= 108 in^3 for the rectangular pan, and the formula 3.14•r^2•h D=7 so r=3.5 in 3.14• (3.5^2)•2 = 76.97 in^3. This is super simple! I hope i could be at some help. You guys should do more book work (if your a connexous student) It help a lot! Have a good weekend!

1) A. 1,361.2 cm
2) B. 86.1 yrd
3) D. 57.5 cm
4) C. 23.236 in
5) B. 221.56 m
6) D. 13 in
7) A. 452 in
8) B. 95
9) D. Cylinder
10) D. 24.0
11) C. 516 in
12) C. 2.384 in
13) B. 371.1 cm
14) C. 119 ft
For the rest, I don’t mind if you copy and paste my answer, you have my full permission to do so!
15) The rectangular pan would have a larger volume. Rectangle: 114 inches total. Round: 82.42 inches total.
16) I know that two sides are 2x9=36 square inches and the other two sides are 2x6=24 square inches. So I need to add 36+24 to get 60. Therefore, the answer is 60 inches.
17) Horizontal would be a square in the horizontal plane, its side is the same as the cube's. Vertical would also be a square in the vertical plane, its side is the same as the cube's. So...the two shapes are the same.
I really hopes this helps everyone, like...no joke, I got 10% just so I could help you guys.

To compare the volume of the two pans, we need to use the formula for the volume of a cylinder and rectangle, respectively.
The formula for the volume of a cylinder is: V = πr²h, where r is the radius of the cylinder and h is its height.
The formula for the volume of a rectangular prism is: V = lxwxh, where l is the length, w is the width, and h is the height.
Using the above formulas, let's find the volume of each pan:
Volume of the round cake pan: V = π(3.5)²(2) ≈ 76.97 cubic inches.
Volume of the rectangular cake pan: V = (9)(6)(2) = 108 cubic inches.
Since 108 cubic inches is greater than 76.97 cubic inches, the rectangular cake pan has the larger volume. Therefore, the 6 inch x 9 inch rectangular cake pan is the better option if you want to bake a larger cake.

Answered by

Sure, I can assist you with questions 22 and 23 based on that information.
22) Excluding the bottom of the cake, what is the surface area of each cake that will be covered by frosting?
To solve this, we need to calculate the surface area of each cake. To exclude the bottom, we need to calculate the curved surface area of the round pan and the lateral surface area of the rectangular pan.
For the round pan, the curved surface area can be calculated using the formula: A = 2πrh, where r is the radius and h is the height of the cake. Since the bottom of the cake is not included, we use 1 as the height. Thus, we get:
A = 2π(3.5)(1) ≈ 21.98 square inches
For the rectangular pan, we need to calculate the lateral surface area, which is simply the sum of the areas of the four sides:
A = 2lw + 2lh = 2(6)(2) + 2(9)(2) = 36 + 36 = 72 square inches
Thus, the surface area of the round cake that will be covered by frosting is about 21.98 square inches, while the surface area of the rectangular cake is 72 square inches.
23) What is the total surface area of each cake, excluding the bottom?
To calculate the total surface area of each cake, we need to add the surface area of the top and the sides. For the round pan, the top is a circle of radius 3.5 inches, so its area is πr^2 = π(3.5)^2 ≈ 38.48 square inches. The lateral surface area is already calculated in part (22) as about 21.98 square inches. Thus, the total surface area of the round cake, excluding the bottom, is about 60.46 square inches.
For the rectangular pan, we can find the surface area of each of the 6 faces and then add them up. There are two faces that are 6 inches by 2 inches, and two faces that are 9 inches by 2 inches, so their combined area is 2(6)(2) + 2(9)(2) = 36 + 36 = 72 square inches. The other two faces are the top and the bottom, which are both 9 inches by 6 inches, so their combined area is 2(9)(6) = 108 square inches. Thus, the total surface area of the rectangular cake, excluding the bottom, is 72 + 108 = 180 square inches.
I hope this helps!
22) Excluding the bottom of the cake, what is the surface area of each cake that will be covered by frosting?
To solve this, we need to calculate the surface area of each cake. To exclude the bottom, we need to calculate the curved surface area of the round pan and the lateral surface area of the rectangular pan.
