thanks.
Are you sure that's a negative 2.817 in your equation? Yes it is a negative. It worked for the other problems.
Yes I have tried calculating the problem. The book says the answer is 1.38. I am not getting this answer.
Thank you for your response I am not sure where I went wrong. I will review the calculation your provided later. Your assistance is greatly apreciated.
Thank you for your response. I can set up and calculate. The book says I should be getting 3 feet as my answer. That is not what I am getting.
Thank you for your response. I understand about consumer and producer surplus and what happens. The book shows the graph for when the price is going up. It does not give and example for when the price decreased. What the diagram's show in the book is three shaded areas for each surplus. The first is the initial consumer/producer surplus, the second is the additional conumer/producer surplus and the thied is the additional surplus or even loss to new consumers/producers. When I try to draw the graph, I know I am not drawing the graph correctly. Especially when I try to draw the third shaded areas

Thank you for your response. This is a rough graph with the exact coordinates stated in the book. Y - - .(0,3/2) - 0 ' ' ' ' 'X - - - .(2,-7/2) - -
Thank you for your response. I have found erros in the book. This is one of them.
thank you for your response. I should have included the answers the book gives. It gives X=-7 Y=4
Thank you for your assitance. Yes trying to put a graph on Jiskha is not an easy task. I will review what you gave me. I unstand what I was trying to come up with. I thought I did get the correct answer for the concumer surplus. I was not sure of the producer suplus. Any thoughts as to how I could draw a graph if I need to ask a question? I don't think I have any software that I could try to use.
In the area of the triangle .5*4*10=20. Where is the .5 coming from?
Thank you for your response. I did get 15\/3 and 2\/5. Why would you then mutiply by \/2? The answer in the book is 15/4 with radicand of 4 not a radicand of 6. Are you also showing that there is a missprint in the book and the racdicand is 4? I have several missprints int he book.
If is 4 \/10. Why would it be 2 \/2 and not the 2 \/5?
Yes I did post it with a +/- representing plus or minus the number. How were you about to show the +- with the minus sign uder the the plus sign? I looked at the answer you provided I think I can see my error. I was taking 0 for C not the 25. I remember now that C has to be a number without a variable next to it.
I do not understand your response. The question was regarding externalities. I understand the noise is the externality. What I am not sure about if both parties causing the externality, since once likes rock and roll and the other opera.
Are you telling me it ia a Pigovian tax?
The question is from my microeconomics course. What I am having trouble remembering is how to simplify the Algebra portion of the problem. The question deals with Price eleasticity of demand. Q Quantitiy P Price This formula is: {Q2-Q1)/[Q2-Q1)/2] __________________ (P2-P1)/[P2+P1/2] This is the question again: Studies indicate that the price elasticity of demand for cigaretts is about 0.4. If a pack of cigarettes currently costs $2.00 and the govenment wants to reduce smoking by 20 percent, by how much should the govenment increase the price? I understand that only the price portion (P2-P1)/[(P2-P1)/2]of the foumula is being used and that $2.00 is P1. I have the calculation for the answer. That is what I submitted to your board. When I try to simplify the algebra protion of the problem, I do not get the 0.5 and 3.33 as my answers. Here is the calculation for the answer again. I will see if I can post it so it reads clearer at your end. Any help you could be in explaining how this was simplied would be greatly appreciated. P2-2 _______ = (P2+2)/2 2(P2-2) ________=0.5 P2+2 2P2-4=0.5P2+1 1.5P2=5 P2=3.33
Sorry I did write in a minus sign in two places by mistake. This following is the correct formula. I don't know if you need to know this formula is for the midpoint method: (Q2-Q1)/[Q2+Q1]/2 __________________ (P2-P1)/[(P2+P1)/2] The following is the answer of 0.5 I came us with and that the price would be increased to $2.50. .20 Quanity/.4 Price Eleasticity of Demand .20/.4 =0.5 When I received the lesson back the instructor wrote out the answer. It seemed he used just second line of the formula (P2-P1)/[(P2-P1)/2] to calculate the answer. P2-2 ________= (P2+2)/2 2(P2-2) _________=0.5 P2+2 2P2-4=0.5P2+1 1.5P2=5 P2-3.33 I still am not clear how this is simplifing to 3.33?
Thank you for your response. Do you know the best way I could post a spread sheet on Jishka for you to review?
I am working Ooligopoly. The following is the information and the problem has more then on question to it. I was on the part of the question; If the countries split the market evenly, what would be South Africa’s production and profit? I know they would production outcose would be for a monopoly. This would be at the quantity of 6,000. I calculated that it sould be $7,000 X 3000 (half)=$21,000,000. I was not sure what to do with the marginal cost in the calculation? Question: A large share of the world supply of diamonds comes from Russia and South Africa. Suppose that the marginal cost of mining diamonds is constant at $1,000 per diamond, and the demand for diamonds is described by the following schedule: Price_______Quantity $8,000---------5,000 7,000----------6,000 6,000----------7,000 5,000----------8,000 4,000----------9,000 3,000----------10,000 2,000----------11,000 1,000----------12,000 If Russia and South Africa formed a cartel what would be price and quantity? If the countries split the market evenly, what would be South Africa’s production and profit? What would happen to South Africa’s profit if it increased its production by 1,000 while Russia stuck to the cartel agreement?
For Q3. In the section of my text for Monopoplistic Competition and Welfare of Society. It says "one source of inefficieny is the markup of price over magainal cost." This is why I was thinking D was the answer.
Yeah, it is not 0.34, and i cant seem to find the right answer, did anyone find an answer that actually works? help would be greatly appreciated
I don't think I am understanding correctly? Was I also suppose be using d=2r?
I am still not clear? In the first problem the denominator of 2 was multipled to get the square root of 4. Why would multiply the 3 in the second problem to get the square root of 9?
Microorganims role in ecological succession occurs within communities, for example in dead trees, animal droppings, etc.In terms of microorganisms, this would refer to more or less predictable and orderly changes in the composition or structure of microorganims. Succession may be initiated either by formation of new, unoccupied habitat (e.g., a lava flow or a severe landslide) or by some form of disturbance (e.g. fire, severe windthrow, logging) of an existing community.
Thanks so much! I wasn't sure if I was right.
Could ye exorcise us pleease.
I know we are supposed to estimate, but I am very confused about the problem. Pplease help me by showing your work.
so would it be 3 bottles an hour, so around 72 bottles?
Thank you.
What I got waas (x-2)(5x+2). Is this right? What would I call this method? Is it distribution?
Thanks a bunch. It makes sense. I was adding too many steps in and confusing myself.

Divide each number (the measurement error) by the true value. Convert that to %
Aristotle followed a theory of composition, believing the world was made of four elements--earth, water, air, and fire (though he later adds a fifth element, quintessance, in order to try and explain planetary movement.) Earth is the heaviest material with the greatest association with our earth; water is lighter than earth but heavier than air; air is lighter than water but heavier than fire; and fire is the lightest of the four. These four elements and their properties were used to explain rudimentary phenomena in Aristotle's time that he and other scientists did not understand such as gravity. Since gravity--or why things fell towards the earth --was a concept not fully understood, Aristotle explained it as such: objects made primarily of earth-materials, such as stone, have a greater association with the earth, and as such are drawn to the earth because they wish to be reunited with their natural place of order (remember Aristotle is a teleological thinker and sees things as having a set place, purpose, and exactly one form of movement.) This is why stones fall to the earth when picked up and dropped. Because earth-materials are heavier than water-materials, stones will fall through water when dropped in a pond or lake on their way to be reunited with their natural place of order. On the other hand, items made of other materials, such as fire- or air-materials, will float because they are naturally lighter and because of their natural place being skyward. Now take wood. Wood is made of earth-materials, but floats on water. Aristotle observed wood and noticed that wood is porous--covered with little holes that allows air to move through. He deduced that wood is primarily earth-material, but has a secondary property of air-material (and a tertiary property of fire-material since it is "dry," but that matters a little less here.) The air-material part of it is lighter than the earth-material, and affects it when the wood is dropped in water. Since the earth-material aspect is its primary composition, it falls towards the earth when dropped. However since its air-material composition is lighter than water, when wood is dropped in water wood will float. Boats were built out of wood in Aristotle's time, and his four elements system of the composition of the world was widely accepted as fact(until after Copernicus and Galileo came into the picture.) The reason why boats float, according to Aristotle, is the same reason as to why wood floats--because its air-properties make it lighter than the water on which it sits.

This system is at equilibrium because 2 moles of product divided by 1 mole of reactant gives you a Qp (similar to the equilibrium constant, but at any given time), of 2. If Qp and Kp are equal, then the system is at equilibrium.
Likely, the economic impact on Mexico will be negligible due to the fact that the most recent hurricane landed in a relatively not well populated area, but it will potentially harm any local business due to the destructive gale force winds of over 200 mph. However, one can take the opposite view that the hurricane may actually positively affect their crop yield due to the increased quantities of water coming in from the storm. This could also be construed negatively if one sees that this extra rainfall may kill dry-weather crops. Overall, it tends to be a benefit as a majority of crops need more water rather than less. Another potential impact is that shipping could be delayed due to the storm, and that would reduce the potential for profit in the import/export trade cycle. Overall, any number of impacts are to be expected in the area, and not all of them are easily predictable beforehand. Everything is dependent upon preparation.

Blood enters the heart through two large veins, the inferior and superior vena cava, emptying oxygen-poor blood from the body into the right atrium of the heart. ... As the ventricle contracts, blood leaves the heart through the pulmonic valve, into the pulmonary artery and to the lungs where it is oxygenated.
