What is a fixer?
a newsroom technician who handles the media outlet's infrastructure
a local reporter in a far-flung place who helps foreign correspondents navigate the logistics of reporting in an unfamiliar place
a source who "fixes" or misrepresents a situation to a foreign correspondent who doesn't understand the socio-economic circumstances of a particular region
C ?
Which of the following people might benefit from the Dart Center?
a foreign correspondent who has covered the atrocities of a violent civil war
a reporter on the Drug Enforcement Administration beat
a sports reporter covering the trend of people gambling on the game of darts
B
If you were covering the local court system for the newspaper, which of the following would be the most valuable to you?
a source in the courthouse
a source at the police station
a reputation for writing fair and accurate stories
B?
which of the following best describes the beat system at a media outlet?
It is a democracy where reporters get to vote on who gets which beat.
It is based on popularity and the nicest reporters get to choose where they go, particularly because reporting abroad is stressful and requires reporters with a diplomatic manner.
It is a hierarchy in which some beats are more prestigious than others, and those beats usually go to reporters who have worked the hardest or proven themselves in a particular area.
C
If a reporter gets a tip that may lead to a good story on a beat that belongs to a co-worker who is known to be very territorial about his beat, what should that reporter do?
not share the tip and try to write the story without the beat reporter finding out because the beat reporter will try to take it away
share the tip with the beat reporter, suggest they work together on the piece and emphasize that the source trusts the reporter who was given the tip
suggest they flip a coin to see who gets the story

a source at the police station
a reputation for writing fair and accurate stories

I don´t like journalism because I ain't good at writing papers! Yet I thought this class would help me better than language arts but I am seriously questioning my thought process. I understand the pain of K12 journalism. I can find good things I just can't write them the way I need to or at all.
