Let's consider the practice known as female genital mutilation that is very common in many African and Middle Eastern cultures. Since these are performed outside of the U.S., our laws don't apply, but there are many people who argue that we should impose our values on those cultures to stop the practices. What are your thoughts as a budding cultural anthropologist?

Well, what ARE your thoughts? Do you know what's involved in female genital mutilation? And why it is so common? What "values" are involved? And, once we know of those "values," are other values, perhaps, more important? And consider HOW we could possibly "impose" our values on anyone else. We can't, but we can preach and try to convince, not "impose."

FMG has far reaching complications for women - pain, lack of enjoyment in sex, infections and even death. Female genital mutilation may seem a world away from Western values and lifestyles.FGM is recognized internationally as a violation of the human rights of girls and women. It reflects deep-rooted inequality between the sexes, and constitutes an extreme form of discrimination against women. The practice violates a person's rights to health, security and physical integrity, the right to be free from torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, and the right to life when the procedure results in death

Good as far as you went, but you didn't discuss if "we should impose our values on those cultures." What are your thoughts about that?

I sure hope you are not being given a Masters degree. You have enough grammatical errors in your last paragraph to put an 8th grader to shame.
You also have shown in many of your posts that you don't understand what you've read in anthropology.
Finally, if you're going to quote another source in public, at least have the honesty to enclose it in quotation marks and give cite the original author or website.

It is a harsh thing they do to woman in Africa and the middle east, in my opinion it shouldn't happen, and we can talk to that culture to stop doing those things, some may not listen since they must for different reasons, but also not all Muslims practice it.

Ms. Sue, If I do not have the knowledge or the criteria, I wouldn't be where I am today. See these are question, not everything I learn in my classroom. Despite what you think, I do deserve a MA degree and some. I am going to succeed, I already have my BA degree. Please do not put me down. I haven't put you down. I was nice to you. You are not right. See when you talk down on people, they feel bad and don't want to continue there education. You do not know what a person going through. Be nice, God gave you a talent to help others, which is a blessing. Don't hurt others with words. Encourage them . May God Bless you. Thank you for everything.
