The lawyer may be doing just that, turning a hobby into something that may or may not earn him/her anything. What kind of a book is the nurse writing? One about nursing, as in a textbook, or a novel or a children's book or what? It may or may not be a hobby for her, but directly related to her profession. I'd have to have more info to say what her goals are. It's hard to make "judgments without more information than you provide here.
