Two Trains are leaving Kansas City at noon. One is traveling northeast at 38MPH. The other is heading west at 46KPH. At what time in Los Angeles will the trains be 214 miles apart?

after x hours, you have the distance d is
d^2 = (38x)^2 + (46x)^2 - 2(38x)(46x)cos(135°)
so, just solve for x in
(38x)^2 + (46x)^2 - 2(38x)(46x)cos(135°) = 214^2
x = 2.75
So, in LA, it is then 12:00 + 2:45 - 2:00 = 12:45 pm
