On question 5, houses that resemble each other and similar if not identical floor plans is nothing new in the 1990s or 1980s. McMansions are larger than most homes built before. On question 3, think about it. Trendy items will be out of style next week, perhaps only to be worn once and discarded. Classic items (basics) will not go out of style very fast, so may be worn, sometimes, for years.
Although this is not my area of expertise, I do have one comment.

1. "same" = uniform
what does regional designs do?
depends on designs from previous eras
reflects the lifestyle of the area
often features distressed furniture
is harder to find materials for than other style
