In a true scale , the units of the terms are the same, and thus the units would cancel
8 cm : 1000 m
= 8 cm : 100000 cm
= 1 : 12500
behold the beauty and simplicity of the metric system
Had this been 1000 yards and 8 inches, it would be a lot messier.
