L = W + 23

P = 2 W + 2 L

P = 2 ( W + L )

P = 2 ( W + W + 23 )

P = 2 ( 2 W + 23 )

P = 4 W + 46

290 = 4 W + 46 Subtract 46 to both sides

290 - 46 = 4 W + 46 - 46

244 = 4 W Divide both sides by 4

244 / 4 = 4 W / 4

61 = W

W = 61 ft

L = W + 23

L = 61 + 23 = 84 ft

Proof :

P = 2 ( W + L ) = 2 ( 61 + 84 ) = 2 * 145 = 290 ft
