how do I solve quadratic equations by elimination?

eg: 6x^2-3x=2y-5
2x^2+x=y-4

6x^2-3x-2y = -5
4x^2+2x-2y = -8
now subtract to get

2x^2-5x = 3
2x^2-5x-3 = 0
(2x+1)(x-3) = 0
