Originally the camera was made to capture a moment in time quickly and exactly. Paintings often reflected the opinion of the painter in their art, however, photos show exactly what was happening. Photos can be biased but nonetheless they are real. Photography started becoming pretty well known around the civil war and that's where the first "imbedded" journalists began.

Yes. An imbedded journalist is a news person who travels with the troops in a war.
