Speed=30m/s
Time=3.0s
Distance=y
the train is moving at 30m/s the time it takes to complete the y distance is 3s. Now it doesn't matter here what the size of the child is the important thing here is that the train will pass its entire length to pass the child and not just the engine or compartments. Hence the distance we will be finding out would be of the train. Now consider all the other words are gone only 30m/s and 3.0s are given. Only looking at these values you see one is missing that is the distance, then write the formula still not giving attention to the words and BINGO its your answer.
Here I've done this for you. :))
speed=distance/time
30m/s=y/3
30x3=y
90m=y
The length of the train is 90 meters.

Distance(Or length for this situation) = Speed x Time
Distance= 30 m/s x 3.0 s
Distance= 90 m
Distance= 30 m/s x 3.0 s
Distance= 90 m

It's 90m,we have to multiply 30 m/s to 3s
