Are two the following sentences correct?

The word "cool" originally meant a slight low temperature.

About an hour later Jesus arrived.

I am having a time with commas and fragments

The second sentence needs a comma after "later." It's a fairly lengthy introductory phrase, and the sentence reads more smoothly with a comma to set it off.
