write it this way:
(1+x)/(1+x^2) = 2/5
cross-multiply
2 + 2x^2 = 5 + 5x
2x^2 - 5x - 3 = 0
(x - 3)(2x + 1) = 0
x = 3 or x = -1/2
(1+x)/(1+x^2) = 2/5
cross-multiply
2 + 2x^2 = 5 + 5x
2x^2 - 5x - 3 = 0
(x - 3)(2x + 1) = 0
x = 3 or x = -1/2
