Let's call the first piece of rod X:
X+2X+(5X+1)=25
8X+1=25
8X+1-1=25-1
8X=24
(8X)÷8=24÷8
X=3
Son we know the first piece is 3 inches. The second piece is 2X, so 2×3 is 6. The third piece is 5X+1, so 5(3)+1 is 16. To check the values, if you add them together you should get the length of the original rod. 3+6+16=25, so the three pieces are 3, 6, and 16 inches long.
