In a flower garden, 1/4 of the bulbs are daffodils, 3/8 are tulips and the remaining 21 bulbs are pillows. How many bulbs are there in all?

2/8x + 3/8x + 21 = x

5/8x + 21 = x

21 = 3/8x

21/(3/8) = x

21 * (8/3) = x

56 = x
