first rearrange the terms so you have

2x^2 + 2x - 5 = 0
Now just plug in the formula, where
a = 2
b = 2
c = -5

x = (-2±√(2^2 + 4*2*5))/(2*2)
= (-2±√44)/4
= (-1±√11)/2
