another way is called elimination. You have
5x - 9y = 7
7y - 3x = -5
Rearrange terms a bit to get
5x - 9y = 7
-3x + 7y = -5
To get rid of the x values, find the LCM of 5 and 3: 15. Now multiply things a bit to get
15x - 27y = 21
-15x + 35y = -25
Now you can add the two equations and the x terms disappear:
8y = -4
y = -1/2
Now substitute that into either equation, and solve for x.
5x - 9y = 7
7y - 3x = -5
