How would you open a speech, speaking about suicide?

depends on the length of the speech, and the tone of the speech. you want an attention grabber, however, if the tone is somber, you don't want to get laughs (unless it is focused on your inadequacies).

I would try to open with a series of short attention grabbing questions about suicide.
