work with the amount of orange juice in each container. If x cups of 100% orange juice are added to 8 cups of 25% orange juice, she will wind up with x+8 cups of 40% orange juice.

.25*8 + 1.00*x = .40(8+x)
x = 2

check:
There are 2 cups of oj in the 8 cups of 25% mix
There are 2 cups of oj in the added 2 cups of pure juice

so, we wind up with 4 cups of oj in 10 cups of mix, or 40%
