Please show work and explain.

(y+6)^2 + (-6)^2 = 100

y^2 + 12 y + 36 + 36 = 100

y^2 + 12 y - 28 = 0

(y-2)(y+14) = 0

y = 2 or -14

y = 2 is on your list
