Sandy decides to try golfing. She stands on the outer edge of a circular putting green. In the very center of this putting green is the hole;it is 8m away from where she is standing. Sandy is inexperienced. She hits the ball incorrectly and it veers directly to her left and travels a distance of 20m.
How far is her ball from the hole?

since she is on the edge of the green, the ball travels at a right angle to the line to the hole. So, now we have a right triangle with legs 8 and 20. The distance from the ball to the hole is the hypotenuse, of length
√(8^2+20^2)
√(8^2+20^2)
