"are" is correct.

FWIW, I thought the first post was ok. The "there" isn't really necessary.

The structure is simply

Trapdoors into the dungeons are at the end of some passages.

If the original sentence had "there" in it, then the question was meant to test whether you could differentiate between "there" and the actual subject of that verb.
