This was Damon's answer. Which part don't you understand?
"well, we know that both are y so
6x-5 = -x+9
7 x = 14
x = 2
then y = -x+9 = -2+9 = 7 ">""

Ms. Sue
6x-5 = -x+9
Add x to both sides of the equation
6x + x - 5 = -x + x + 9
7x - 5 = 9
Add 5 to both sides of the equation
7x = 14
Add x to both sides of the equation
6x + x - 5 = -x + x + 9
7x - 5 = 9
Add 5 to both sides of the equation
7x = 14
