p-1= 4. P= ? To solve it with addition only in algebra we do it the oppiste e=way and backwards. So our question, Cora Evans, is really just 4 + 1 = 5
P = 5
P = 5

add one to both sides
p - 1 = 4
1 = 1
------------- add
p+1-1 = 5
or
p = 5
p - 1 = 4
1 = 1
------------- add
p+1-1 = 5
or
p = 5
