Solving equations means getting the letter on one side and the numbers on the other side. You have to use "opposite" operations to do this.
Say the question was x + 3 = 5
we need to get the 3 to the other side, the opposite of adding 3 is subtracting 3 so we apply it to both sides
x + 3 - 3 = 5 - 3
x = 2
The order to undo the equation and get x alone is BEDMAS backwards or... do the things that are added or subtracted first (those things on the same side as the variable.... but NOT connected to it... like the +3 in x +3), then you work on what is connected to x.
If it is 3x then you would have to divide both sides by 3 to get the x alone.
If it was x/7 then you would have to do the opposite of dividing by 7, so times both sides by 7 to get the x alone.
