1, 2. They certainly DO have different meanings. 1. he killed someone else but 2. he killed himself
3., 4. They are both correct, but 3 is definitely clearer.
5., 6. Again like 1 and 2, 5. it is himself BUT 6. it could be another boy/man.

(Are both OK? Is #4 wrong?)
5. He looked at himself in the mirror.
6. He looked at him in the mirror.
(Are both the same? Is #6 correct? Does 'him' refer to the subject or another man?)
