1/2x+1/3y=5

1/4x+1/3y=4
elimination method

1 answer

1/2x+1/3y=5
1/4x+1/3y=4
First I want to get rid of the fractions..multiply the first equation by 6 and the second one by 12.
3x+2y=30 (1)
3x+4y=48 (2)
Now multiply the first equation by -1.
-3x-2y=-30
3x+4y=48
Add the equations together.
2y=18
Solve for y, put it back into (1) or (2) to solve for x.
