Be more specific with parentheses. Does the 1+i divide into only the i^3 term? Or does it divide into 1 - 2i + i^3?
Since you are dividing two expressions with the same base, you can just subtract the exponents: i^(16-3) = i^13 And since i = (-1)^(1/2), any i to an even power will yield -1. So: i^12 * i^1 = (-1) * i = -i
