I'm thinking that since the octagon is made up of eight equal size triangles with one of the sides being 1 cm. Then find the area of one triangle which has all sides equal to 1 cm. then multiply answer by 8 and that should give you total area of octagon....

I got an answer around 14 or 14 1/2... I'm not sure why its not letting you graph it. Try doing it on paper I guess and see if you get a reasonable answer. That's all I can suggest.
