go on google and type in "impulse and momentum upon impact explanation" and click on the link 4th from the top p.s. i know its probably already obvious but i think it's just the density imbalances

because if something compresses upon impact the object will be slowing down as it compresses instead of an immediate jerking stop forcing all it's momentum p.s. sorry if my explanation is a little screwy

the more mass and volume moving at a rate as something else smaller or more lightweight is going to need something of equal size and force to counter the momentum
