honestly i don't think i can help because i really don't understand but look up "e^cx derivative" on google and the 1st and 2nd links just might help
ex. which would be easier to stop if launched at the same speed at you, a water melon or a tennis ball?
the more mass and volume moving at a rate as something else smaller or more lightweight is going to need something of equal size and force to counter the momentum
because if something compresses upon impact the object will be slowing down as it compresses instead of an immediate jerking stop forcing all it's momentum p.s. sorry if my explanation is a little screwy
