To find the number of factors of a number, you get the prime factors and add one to each exponent, then multiply all the exponents. I know how to get that, but I am wondering why you add one. Mathmatical explanation? Can anyone help?

There are no units after 1.088 in the problem it just says a specific gravity of 1.088 at room temperature.
