Why do we need to use the sum/difference formulas to find exact values? Please explain.

If a substance has a low density, the size is small, it is heavy, and the atoms are arranged more tightly that make up the substance. If a substance has a high density, the size is large, it is lighter, and the atoms are arranged less tightly/"loosely"
