I am a math tutor and this is the ratio answer for this problem number of black = 3x number of red = 5x 3x+5x = 16 8x=16 x=2 number of black pieces = 3(2) = 6 number of reds = 5(2) = 10 check your answer: so we have 16 pieces and 6:10 = 3:5
