Consider the swimmer in the figure below. Suppose that his swimming speed relative to the water is 5.7 m/s, current = 2.2 m/s, and that the river is 10 m wide. How long will it take for him to cross the river?

Suppose that the swimmer in the figure below has a swimming speed relative to the water of 0.44 m/s, while the speed of the current is 2.0 m/s. If it takes the swimmer 180 s to cross the river, how wide is the river?

An airplane flies from Boston to San Francisco (a distance of 5000 km) in the morning, then immediately returns to Boston. The speed of the plane relative to the air is 240 m/s. The wind is blowing at 41 m/s from west to east, so it is "in the face" of th...

Container A holds 752 mL of ideal gas at 2.40 atm. Container B holds 179 mL of ideal gas at 4.80 atm. If the gases are allowed to mix together, what is the resulting pressure? Note: Find the partial pressure of each gas in the total volume using a formula...

The organic compound di-n-butyl phthalate, C16H22O4(l), is sometimes used as a low-density (1.046 g·mL–1) manometer fluid. Compute the pressure (in torr) of a gas that supports a 555-mm column of di-n-butyl phthalate. The density of mercury is 13.53 g·mL–...

A 7.30-L container holds a mixture of two gases at 45 °C. The partial pressures of gas A and gas B, respectively, are 0.342 atm and 0.527 atm. If 0.250 mol a third gas is added with no change in volume or temperature, what will the total pressure become?

Enrico Fermi was a famous physicist who liked to pose what are now known as Fermi problems in which several assumptions are made in order to make a seemingly impossible estimate. One example of a Fermi problem is "Caesar's last breath" which estimates tha...

bobpursley on the first one it's a mult. choice which I have A) $0.00 B) -$1.00 C) -$0.85 D) -$0.83 where did you get $17 though? I don't understand this one.

D) 13 : 191

I have gotten the answer already I have worked out the problem and I came up with 3.60 I mult. across. then added the answers all together..

Well you see that answer does not match with one of the multiple choice rather it's and we know that it's not D so I'm assuming it's A then. A) 204 : 13 B) 191 : 13 C) 13 : 204 D) 13 : 191

So would it look like this: 2.40*752=P2*931 for gas 1 4.80*179=P2*931 for gas 2 Then add the two P2's that I get. Right?
