What would you do with fractions in arithmetic? Cross multiplication would work here as well. 3 (x+2) = (x-2) x 3x+6= x^2-2x x^2-5x-6= 0 (x-6) (x+1)=0 either x=6 or x=-1 would work
Think of f(x) as being pretty much like y. The domain is what you are allowed to put in for x in order to get some f(x) or y to come out. That is called the range, but, anyway, are there any x values that you can see as being troublesome? Which x's work
Negative exponents are better thought of as fractions: 1/m + 1/z / 1/m-1/z. The only difference between the numerator and the denominator is an operation sign. Do you know what to do from here?

First look up the definiton for a rational number and then go from there. Perhaps your textbook has a glossary or beyond that what is its meaning in a dictionary? Vocab terms can be dicey in any language, and math is no exception.
Multiply each side by the reciprocal 3/2 (3/2 times 2/3 equals 1 leaving y). 12/1 * 3/2, so y=18
