If it accelerates to the left, there is a force pulling (or pushing) it to the left. That force if pulling the object, would be on the right, if it is pushing, it would be on the left. Accelerations are in the same direction as the net force.
The answer is B, because if there is a force going against the object and it moves left then it has a net force on the object to the left
