repossess your vehicle," the officer explained, tilting his head slightly as he observed Martha's reaction. "If you're behind on payments, they can send someone to take the car back."

Martha's face fell, a mixture of confusion and worry washing over her. "No, I haven't defaulted. I set up automatic payments through my bank."

The officer raised an eyebrow, looking skeptical. "Have you checked your account recently? Sometimes, there can be issues with the bank's system that cause payments to fail."

Martha nodded, her mind racing. "I haven’t checked in a few weeks, but I don’t think there should be a problem. I always make sure I have funds available."

"Let me suggest that you contact your bank as soon as you can," the officer said, his tone softening. "Sometimes, they can provide you with the information you need to clarify whether a mistake was made on their end."

Martha bit her lip, feeling the weight of the potential mistake settling heavily on her shoulders. "And if they say I am behind?"

"Then you’ll need to discuss your options with them," he replied. "It's essential to stay proactive. Ignoring the situation won’t help, and you may still be able to work out a solution before things escalate further."

Martha nodded slowly, taking deep breaths to calm her nerves. "Thank you. I’ll call them right after this."
